Here are all the Dollies Online quilt patterns to buy. They are part of the monthly program with Sarah Fielke and Amy Lobsiger from Mrs Schmenkman Quilts. Dolly Quilts are only small but are a great way to learn new techniques without having to commit to large quilt. New ones will appear each month. Each pattern download is a PDF.

A fun way to learn new techniques.

Camellia Tea Mat
By Sarah Fielke

There has been a lot of talk about mug rugs online at the moment, and I have to say I haven’t had a lot of interest in
what seemed to me like a glorified coaster. When I started making this little quilt though it went off in a direction
I didn’t expect, and suddenly it was a little mat to put your morning tea on. Which I suppose is a mug rug but I think
tea mat sounds much nicer. If you want to see some other mug rugs you can look at the Flickr group here: http://

Mass Appeal
By Amy Lobsiger

Mass Appeal is a variation of an orange peel quilt. The inspiration is an antique quilt from the 1800s. I hadn’t before
seen a two-color version set on point but really loved the graphic punch. I’m keen to do a version using a blowsy
floral print and a dark contrasting color. The final construction is a little different than what we’ve seen as I didn’t
want to mar the visual with a traditional binding. Instead the quilt is stitched and flipped inside out with hidden perle
cotton ties at the block intersections. This pattern would also be great used as a cushion cover!

Fans of May Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Amy Lobsiger

Well, what can I say? I’m a big fan of May! I was born in May, I was married in May, I celebrate Mother’s Day in May. It’s all around my favorite month. Where I live, it also means that the cold weather has gone away and flowers are starting to bloom again. With that inspiration, I chose some light and pretty colors for a simple pieced center and some “fans of May.” The fans are dimensional and are not appliqued down to the border –– although you could certainly do that. The curved corners echo the curved edges of the fans and add a fun touch with not a lot of fuss!

Madam X Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Amy Lobsiger

Thumbing through my favorite quilt block dictionary, I spotted her –– Madame X. She was simply a black and white sketch. I envisioned her in lipstick red and basic black to make her really sizzle! And then I realized that I would have to make her squares (all 441 of them) finish to no bigger than 1” to fit her into the parameters of a (large-ish) doll quilt. In my defense, Madame X turns out to be an exercise in tidy precision and there is something quite satisfying about that! Like snapping in the pieces of a puzzle. You can always up-size her squares and follow the pattern layout to make a baby quilt. Madame X is also a take off on an Irish chain design –– quite fitting for the month of March!

Huggs and Kisses Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Sarah Fielke

Hi everybody and welcome to February! I had a lot of fun making this little quilt. It was first inspired by the amazing volunteers who helped during the flood crisis in Australia recently. I had the idea of the brown water and the love and determination shining through in the bright fabrics. Then I went on a teaching trip to the Netherlands and taught\ my little Windmills quilt. When I came back I realised that the pattern would be available right near Valentines Day – so I combined the two and came up with Hugs and Kisses! I hope you will enjoy learning reverse appliqué and the windmill block this month. Enjoy, and don’t forget to post your creations to the Dollies Online Flickr group.

Winners Circle Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Amy Lobsiger

Welcome to the 2011 Dollies Online program! We’re so glad you’ve joined us. We’re excited about a brand new year of playing with fabric! We begin the year with Winner’s Circle which has a little bit of piecing, a little bit of applique, a little bit of ric rac and a whole lot of stripes for graphic effect. I’ve chosen the brilliant stripes in Sarah’s From Little Things fabric range from Lecien. While I designed the quilt, I had vintage on my mind –– from vintage horse show ribbons to vintage game boards. I think I say this with every Dollies Online quilt, but I’d like to make a whole quilt made up of Winner’s Circle blocks. Whatever fabrics you choose for your quilt, we’re sure it will be a winner!

Bethlehem Star Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Sarah Fielke

A whole year of Dollies, come and gone. It’s gone so fast we can’t believe it! We have had such a great time making these little quilts with you, thank you so much to everyone for playing. Dollies Online will be continuing into 2011, we have had a few people book in already, so if you want to play again next year please head on over to either of our blogs and click the link to sign up. We have another year of fun patterns planned so don’t miss out! Our final quilt for 2010 is called Bethlehem Star. I have purposely not done the star in Christmas fabrics to allow for those of us not into Christmas themed projects! However this would be a beautiful table runner in Christmas colours, and would also make a stunning full sized bed quilt, which I have to say I’m thinking about myself. If you haven’t done English paper piecing before, I think you will enjoy this quilt for a handy, carry around holiday sewing project. I hope you enjoy it.

Tumblers Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Amy Lobsiger

The inspiration for Tumblers is an 1890s crib quilt made of bright silks. The antique quilt is a festive eye-catcher that features floral embroidery in the background diamonds and crazy quilt stitches along many of the seams. I chose Kaffe Fassett’s shot cottons in an array of colors to try and capture some of the zing of the original quilt. I can’t get the antique quilt out of my mind, so I have a feeling I’m not done with variations on this block!

Star Flower Heart Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Sarah Fielke

Now, we know that it’s hot where a lot of you people are, but here in Sydney where Sarah is it’s cold – well as cold as it gets here, anyway. If you ARE somewhere hot and you don’t want to use wool for this project, go ahead and do the whole thing in cottons, it will be just as cute.

Sarah's Polka Dot Baskets Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Amy Lobsiger

Do you like polka dots? Red and white polka dots? I really think there’s nothing more cheery than red and white polka dots! I think Sarah likes them too. Since this is her birthday month, I wanted to come up with a fabric scheme with Sarah in mind. She has also inspired me to do more and more perle cotton quilting, so you will find that here too. So, for month seven, take it away with some raw edge applique, some decorative contrast stitching, and lots of red and white polka dots! Happy Birthday, Miss Sarah! Don’t forget to post your completed quilts to the Dollies Online Flickr group so everyone can see. Have fun this month and please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Little Trees Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Sarah Fielke

Something a little different this month. Fusible appliqué is quick and easy so you have plenty of time left for embellishment of your backgrounds! Have you ever tried making your own fabrics? It doesn’t have to involve vats of dye and huge messes – all you need is commercial fabric and a Pigma pen, and you can change the look of all kinds of fabrics already in your stash. This is a month to really let go and be creative! Don’t forget to post your completed quilts to the Dollies Online Flickr group so everyone can see. Have fun this month and please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Wheelies Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Amy Lobsiger

The year is rolling right along! With that theme in mind, we’re making paper pieced wheels this month. They are a little wonky and a lot of fun! Our version veers toward the serious in the fabric choice. Feel free to venture off this beaten path to take the road less traveled with your fabric choices. And drive yourself just a little crazy with the slightly crazy pieced border. OK, enough with the wheel puns, don’t you think? Don’t forget to post your completed quilts to the Dollies Online Flickr group so everyone can see. Have fun this month and please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Grandma's House Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Sarah Fielke

Beware Red Riding Hood, the wolf is waiting… This little quilt is an excersize in de-constructed piecing. If you have pieced like this before, go now and have fun! If not, check your patchwork rules at the door and be prepared to have some fun. Don’t forget to post your completed quilts to the Dollies Online Flickr group so everyone can see. Have fun this month and please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Details Details Dolly Quilt Pattern

by Amy Lobsiger

March? Already? The year is whipping past us once again. Time speeds by so fast that I know I’m missing many of the finer points along the way. But when I’m deep into a quilt idea, time slows, and I find myself thinking, “it would be fun to try narrow in this part of the quilt,” or “what if I tried this the next time?” And that’s what happened when I began designing this month’s quilt, Details, Details. I could easily keep making this quilt and playing with color and value to get totally different results or enlarging the plain center or... well, you get the picture. My Details, Details quilt relies heavily on Moda’s Oz fabric designed by Sanae. At approximately 21” square, it would be fun to use the pattern as a large block and make multiples for a larger quilt! Don’t forget to post your completed quilts to the Dollies Online Flickr group so everyone can see. Have fun this month and please let us know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Apple Orchard
By Amy Lobsiger

Like many of you, I enjoy perusing photos of vintage quilts. This quilt was inspired by an antique quilt made up
of “apple tree” applique blocks. The folk art feel and whimsy of the quilt were hard to ignore –– with multiple
blocks, the apples line up side by side centered around the tree trunks across the quilt. This small apple orchard
could easily be multiplied for full large orchard effect! The blocks could be set side by side without sash or
sashed with the fence blocks. I can’t wait to plant more apple trees and hope you enjoy them too!
