Quilt pattern. Comes as a PDF download with order.

No grids or templates here! Don’t be intimidated—all you need to know is how to sew a straight line and how to write. There are a few rules though. Lots of improv is just about whackingit all together any old how.

To make these shapes look like readable letters, there are a few guidelines to follow though, so I suppose this isn’t TRUE improv—I like to call it "improv with intent." All the improv letters are stitched almost the same way as you would write them. Your blank page is the negative space— or the background fabric.

For example, to write an ‘a’, you start with a circle around the negative space. Then you put the "stick" down the side. Our eye sees the line, but the letter is formed also by the space around it. That’s what we’re going to do here.

A fun improvisational design.  A perfect starter before you dive into the full online class.
