My inspiration for this quilt was an antique quilt I love. The block is beautiful and symmetrical, but the original is stitched with black thread and the colours are duller. I used brighter 1930s reproduction prints in keeping with the history of the original, but used the stripes and the yellow border to give a boost of modern-day sunshine. 
 
You could make your flowers darker, or all the same – they would look great on a spotty background or a ticking stripe.
 
This is quick, easy appliqué of repeated shapes – traditional, yet modern enough to appeal to anyone.
