The symbol of an eagle is often found in American antique quilts. I have always loved these quilts and wanted to make one, however, as I’m not American, I thought perhaps a fantasy bird of paradise might be more appropriate. This quilt is fun to make and the large appliqué shapes and bright fabrics make the sewing go quickly.

When choosing backgrounds, don’t be afraid to choose fabrics with bolder, more interesting graphics. I feel that the newsprintfabric really makes this quilt more interesting.
