When I was a kid, my favourite lollies were Fruit Tingles — pretty, coloured candies that fizzed on the end of your tongue. These jagged ellipses seem to fizz their colours around the central floral and create a great energy. This quilt is an exercise in colour grading. It's important to choose your shades carefully and use them wisely, to create the slightly throbbing effect of the points around the circles. Don't be afraid to use lots of different-sized prints in the piecing of the ellipses; you will have much more interesting results if you use both large- and small-scale fabrics, creating more movement in the colours.
