Ring around the rosie, a pocket full of posy…Did you sing this nursery rhyme when you were little, or to your own kids?

I found out recently that the nursery rhyme "Ring Around the Rosie" is widely believed to be linked to the Great Plague of 1665 in London.

The "rosie" refers to the red rash that was a symptom of the plague, while "a pocket full of posies" symbolizes the practice of carrying flowers to mask the stench of the disease. The rhyme's final line, "We all fall down," is thought to represent death from the plague. Hmm, not as cheerful as I intended…. the cushion seems to be much prettier than the rhyme!!This month the projects are very similar - in fact totally the same, depending on how you want to finish the top you’re making. I chose to make my Posy into a cushion, that looks beautiful on my guest bed as a decorative back cushion. You can finish the Posy into a lovely wall quilt too, perfect to hang either horizontally or vertically.

You could also choose to make the stems a bit shorter if you wanted to make the piece a square. We have a very few kits for this project still available - they contain absolutely everything you need to make either a cushion or a quilt in the same fabrics as me - including pre-made bias tape! - except for the backing and the zipper.

Finished cushion/quilt size: 14 1/2” x 22 1/2” (36 x 56cm) approx.
